What are Parentheses?
Parentheses are punctuation marks used to enclose phrases or sentences that offer non-essential information.
Some examples of parentheses would be the following:
After twenty minutes of his presentation (which had a paragraph of text on each slide), most of the class nodding off.
The principal (affectionately known as “the warden”) angrily stomped down the hallway.
Don’t forget to put out the recycling bin (and bring it back inside when it’s been emptied).
